Ccleaner, developed by Piriform, is just a simple little program that does one thing, it cleans up all those messy files and little pieces of files that are left when you install a new program or uninstall one.
Since its introduction about 30 years ago, DOS has had this funny little habit of letting you install whatever you want when you needed it, if you had "administrative privileges." This simply meant and still means that you run or allowed to run a computer with "full privileges." "Full" or "administrative" privileges mean you can do anything you want to the computer such as install or uninstall the software or hardware and drivers that leave all the little file pieces and files that have to be cleaned up before you computer can run quickly and cleanly.
All you need is a simple little program such as Ccleaner, a few minutes of time and the matter is completed. As they old saying goes "it's not rocket science," although it is about the science of cleaning up after oneself. Why DOS, and later Windows, was developed with this inconvenient little problem is beyond the scope of this article. What is germane though is that Piriform's Ccleaner is worth it's weight in disk space.
It takes next to nothing to install and when you've finished you have a computer that is speedy and from which all those unneeded files and little pieces of file have been deleted.
Ccleaner is quick to install as it has a very simple interface that indicates exactly what the program is doing at any time. Once you've installed it, the program is easy to use.
It cleans up anything that's left - you probably have experienced programs that leave annoying cookies or files on your hard drive - and makes it disappear. The truth is that once Ccleaner has taken the program and flattened it, the files are gone forever, so you do have to be a bit careful about what you are taking off.
They tell you this in the instructions so if you go a little overboard and yank all of the unwanted programs off your computer you may find that you have programs that won't start or won't do anything if they do start.
You can't say, though, they haven't given you fair warning. Ccleaner is a good software and may be helpful as it really does what it advertises to do and no more.
